Picked these up over the weekend, you may all be shook at this, BUT ... I have a weakness for stones and interesting looking things.
These didn't cost much, wanted to try to learn about them. (But I got lost!)

The bootaging has been good this season.
Only three weeks in and I'm inundated with Things,Stuffs and boxes in which to stash them. Happy days!

(Am sure that these are stone, not glass)

This little egg thing ( I love egg shaped things, dunno why)
    It's an inch and a half / 4cms)
The closest I could think of was Bowenite, is this a serpentine? Cold to the touch, no taste of scent xx

    Has a hole one end
    [IMG]

It actually looks like a stone grape.
Am hoping it's an alien egg
    [IMG]

This is odd. almost looks as if someone's felt tipped over it. It's cold to the touch,no scent or taste, and small about an inch xx

This reacts to UV, a sort of milky glow. It's cold, no taste or scent.
Approx 2 inches across the bottom (5 cms)

First one could be bowenite, or possibly jade, looks a bit too clean for most serpentines. Second one probably green aventurine, also possibly calcite. Not sure about the third one, it's the wrong habit for citrine unless it has been knocked around a lot, maybe some form of partially polished calcite or carnelian.

Generally speaking, tasting crystals isn't a good idea, many contain toxic minerals and heavy metals such as asbestos and chromium. When cleaned and polished not so bad, but if they have powder residues you could ingest them.

Thank you very much, will go and have a good look, that's great :) xx

I taste everything, I'm pretty sure I'd have to ingest a much bigger amount than even I am capable of to do any harm. Thank you though, I've managed to get to the grand age of **coffcoff** tasting quite a few things I shouldn't
    :D xxx

Meant to say as well, I have what I think could be a bowenite necklace, the stones look lot greyer than this egg thing does. Don't know if it comes in different shades or that could be a relevant thing xx

Bou do you think your grape/egg thing might be from a stone grape cluster?

These are some of mine and each grape has a hole in one end.

I am very happy to learn I am in very good company, Kyra xxxx
I use all I have to (try to) ID things. Doesn't seem to have harmed me in the *few* years I've been doing it...have had a leetle shock or two testing batteries, must 'fess xx

You are right that you are unlikely to come to harm, but don't forget some elements are cumulatively damaging so it takes a long time for the effects to build up and it can be 20 years down the track before anything happens. There are also a few crystals (not common) which have uranium and tritium in them, these are radioactive and while pretty much harmless outside the body when inside they can cause serious harm.

I'm not trying to put you off you doing you, but it's not something that should be advocated to others.

Haha, yep - unlikely to find it in jewellery or a minerology show though (hopefully). Green and blue crystals are often some of the more toxic end of the spectrum due to the colouration coming from chromium and copper.

To be honest, I think people can make up their own mind. It would make utterly no difference to me if someone tested their stuff with their tongue, or not. Wouldn't make any difference to me if someone told me to/told me not to/ expressed concerns, either.

( Just would like to make it clear! I don't go 'round pickin' things up from the floor, and licking them indiscriminately. )

I actually am in full compos mentis. :)

I am quite capable of assessing a situation! I shall continue to use all my senses as I choose...all of them.

Thank you for the concern x x x but I don't expect people to do as I say/do etc. and I'm just going to carry on just the way I have been.

What a shame, blue happens to be my FAVE thing to lick. Dam.

But...but can I lick prussian blue ... ‽ I know it has cyanide in, but it kills radioactivity. So sort of a win/win type of situation.

    Please?
