Having a problem with an item that I listed here before but thought a separate thread would help. Someone thought it was paper mache where others thought it was resin. There was a similar box with a much cruder painting listed as resin.

The item is fairly lightweight and when I gently clack it together it has a woody sound like that percussion instrument used in orchestras and big bands. It seems to look perfect (like no bonds of paper) and very smooth.

Paper mache will be much lighter for its size than resin. Lacquer is a coating applied over some type of substrate, typically wood or paper mache.

    Lacquer over papier mache, indeed.

Gourd! Carved and painted gourd. That's what it looks like to me.
EDIT: A SECOND LOOK AT THE LAST PICTURE... I GUESS IT IS TOO THICK TO BE A REAL GOURD.
