Doesn’t appear to be very old.The seller stated that it was possibly modelled after Aztec pottery (but she wasn’t sure as the owner of the house has past away)But searching I couldn’t find any similar examples.. I was wondering if it was possibly modelled after Native American pottery? Stands 35cm tall and is about 24cm wide. Thank you for any comments and keep well

That is a strange pot. If it were Mexican, I would expect the clay body itself to be red. But on the bottom you can see that the clay is cream/white in color, and a red slip has been applied over the surface. I don't see evidence of it having been cut off of a wheel, so it was probably hand built, on a flat surface (perhaps a turntable rotated by hand). I don't recognize the colored design as anything traditional (except maybe from Middle Eastern rugs). So it appears to be a pastiche, attempting to look "ethnographic". My best guess is that it is a student project. But I might be wrong.

I get a little more of a South American vibe from this, rather than Central American. But I agree that it's not clearly within a specific tradition, at least that I know of.

    It's cool looking!

Well many thanks for the opinion. and the information provided. At least it is an interesting thing (and it was for little money) So then a once off student/amateur potter creation. All and all I like it..

Appreciate the comment. So a ‘own creation’ mixed thing. I agree it’s cool looking.
