Featured Sterling silver spoon rest?

i have not seen one of these before, all i can think is that its a spoon rest. Theres probably loads of them out there, i just dont have the correct terminology.

9cm length, 2cm height, 33.9 grams. UK hallmarks for London 1899.

 

I wouldn't call it a spoon rest, more like a specific size of measuring spoon that would rest without spilling contents. How much does it hold? A Tablespoon?

Yeppers. Pipe rest. I've seen pipe "trays" before but not in sterling.

 

Ratsy - Have you got a pipe that would fit inside that?

 

Fairly uncommon to see a pipe where the bottom of the bowl drops below the stem like that

 

I have seen these described as cigar ash trays / rests. This seems to be a more likely use.

I’ve been wanting a sterling measuring spoon (Tbs) for a while now. Hard to find and expensive when I do see one. Maybe I’ll have to buy one of these pipe/cigar rests and see if it happens to hold close to a tablespoon. I want one for doling out my morning coffee.
