Very lucky this week.

First is a 22ct solid gold identity bracelet, weighs 47.22g. £19 delivered from ebay.

Second is 89 grams of cherry amber bakelite for £1.50.

The back of the ID panel was ‘hollowed out’ to save on metal. I wasn’t certain but you only have to be correct 1 in 20 times to make a lot of money.

Since I retired from the store, I have done very little purchasing. Have focused on things I personally like and/or are too much of a bargain to pass up.

Ran across this Stickley Brothers rocker for $20.00 at the thrift store the other day. Have not been able to pin down the model number. Will spruce this up for a quick flip.



This watercolor is by an Indiana artist named Fred Ewoldt. Framed under glass and fairly large. From the 50s or 60s. The artist owned a gallery at one point and later on taught art in the high school in Crawfordsville. Bought for $4.00 from a thrift.



Have a soft spot for arts and crafts hammered copper. In my collection for now. All from the same antique shop. $15.00 each on the bookends. $9.50 on the pen tray.







This was one of those bargains. From the thrift for $2.00. Assume German but have not identified the maker.

 

Someone's been finding the stuff. Stickley for $20 and Arts and Crafts copper? Pretty good! That rocker will find itself coated in beeswax in jig time and looking much nicer, no doubt.

I do believe that qualifies as the find of the week. Two thousand quid in gold for 20? Another possible giveaway - that Chinese style clasp. (at least I associate it with Chinese bits) They only use it on pieces not meant for export to the West. It's enough to make my nose twitch anyway.

 

That bracelet....I have seen solid gold bracelets from India, too. A co-worker had one as a wedding gift.

Got up late, know I missed jewelry at the flea market Saturday...but I had fun finding this. From a thrift that snottily told me they now sell their "good" jewelry to dealers because "you think you should get it for pennies?" Nooooo.....just want a level playing field and the chance to buy what they are buying. Well, I always look at accessories, especially scarfs. Found this for $2, googled, seems authentic vintage Chanel. Color off on logo closeup, tag found on Chanel and Hermes scarves.

 

Hum... Not so sure about the CHANEL scarf. The brand has never used a serif font. And luxury silk scarves are typically made in northern Italy. "Made in Paris" a bit of a red flag. What does the hem look like? Should be hand stitched.

Hem is hand-stitched, silk is twill. If you Google Chanel silk scarf sunflowers, there are a few in this color and black. It may be faux...but for $2, I had to take a chance.

I rather suspect that Chanel scarf, too, but WDIK.

Nevertheless, well-made fakes often sell for a tidy sum, too. Not all buyers know how to tell the difference. (I am in no way encouraging anyone to intentionally fool buyers! I'm simply pointing out why you may find scarves like yours, likely fakes, that still may have good sale prices.)

 

This was in the package with all those stamps. (131 stamps used for postage.)

An etching of the Chateau du Buron by Emmanuel Phelippes-Beaulieux (1829-74), who did both the drawing and the etching. Not a copy of a painting this. From 1866.

I like the overall naivete. The man was a lawyer with drawing and etching as a side line. (Doing a bit more online research - seems that being a lawyer was the side line.)

The arms at the bottom are Hersart du Buron. There's every indication that the artist and the Hersart family were well acquainted.

The image measures about 8 1/2" by 12 1/4", but it's on a sheet that's more like 18" by 25".
