    (Are the pics too small?

Can anyone ID the Manufacturer, the era of manufacture?..and if the 2 numbers (81 and 6) stamped on the back side of the working gear has any significance?

I have had this for 40+ years...and it was in this same shape as you see it in the pics.

Hi Meddy,I have a similar looking one (but I think mine originally had a wooden paddle) Mine was made by the company Dazey and is from 1920’s or so.

Most of the ones I found while searching had wooden paddles.

    (bercrystal...I didn't see any comment?)...
    anyway...
the links people provided are interesting.
The "rancho..." website that shows the similar looking churn that indicated a date of 1893....I would think in that era, the paddles would be wood...and the metal paddles would have come along much later..? Other people's thoughts on this? I have tried doing s google search on when metal paddles were being used...but no luck so far.

Ahh...we're getting closer. I think mine has to still be sometime after 1922, as mine has a serpentine paddle shape with holes. Unfortunately, no markings in the glass

DH has his mother's.....did not see a date, but it says DAZEY CHURN & MFG CO,
#40, Made in St Louis, U.S.A., 4 QT.....I'll see if there's a date in better light tomorrow......it does have the wooden paddles though!!

Ahh butter making. Takes me back to Kindergarten where my beloved teacher taught us how to make butter. I think we just used a whisk or something like that. I thought it was magic.

OK....I was following the churncraft journal link, (thanks Boland) and at the bottom on an enclosed newsletter, was a note from someone who used to work at the Dazey butter churn company. I actually was able to get ahold of the person (email was listed)...and she said she thought the churn would have been sold by Montgomery Ward - !920's. She was thinking it was made by Hazel Atlas....but...there was no "HA" imprinted on the glass. Does anyone know anything more about HA...if it is made by HA, if it should have their "HA" stamp?? Or...better yet...anyone have an old Montgomery Ward catalog that may show the butter churn??

The "Butter Churn history" website did focus on Daizey butter churns… but, by every indication, mine is not Daizey. However, there was a helpful link in that website that had a contact email. I ended up corresponding with a woman who seemed to know a lot about Daizey and butter churns in general. When I sent her the photos, she thought that my butter churn was sold by Montgomery Ward, and possibly manufactured by The Standard Churn Company, Wapakoneta, Ohio. I would be interested to hear if anybody has old Montgomery Ward catalogs, if this Butter Churn was pictured (it would have to be from the 1920s to 40s I would think...., or something similar).
