Featured British Hallmark Question/Help

I would greatly appreciate some guidance if you can.

I am considering an antique british silver item.

It has the makers mark, date letter and sovereign duty stamp. There is no lion quality mark or city mark. Is this a problem or possible that it is silver but did not get marked?
It dates to 1869.

Please help

What is that thing?

I have a 2X grandfather's vinaigrette - the bottom of it is fully marked, the lid is only partially marked. That could be the situation with this item.

So that's the lid on which the marks are? I take it this is an online listing. Has the seller not said anything about other marks?

Frankly, I see no reason to think this is brass nor any reason for the duty mark (showing that tax was paid) on something that was not made of precious metal. Our British silver buffs have said that a missing city mark is not an issue. Perhaps one of them can comment on this "missing lion passant" situation. @afantiques @Ownedbybear

 

Beats me, the lion is usually there even if the city mark is not.
Opening the grille might show a mark inside the base

 

But that appears to be a different item. The pictures show a different grille design.

I'm with af. City marks can be missing, lion not.

 

Sorry @lunareagle, I found the listing with the images you provided and the lion and city markings seem to be there. Were you looking to obtain another item but had to use the images from this listing? I am a bit lost....

The engraving in the onlinegalleries link is a bit crude and lacking.

 

Nice research, Marco. I agree it has both the lion passant and the leopard head for London. The marks lunareagle showed are on one of the twin bottles, the lion and leopard head on the other. Or should we be looking at another item?
