    Hi guys!!
I've been bound up with personal matters for, like, forever. Miss you all <3
I was hoping to find an old thread discussing the pronunciation and use of "broach" vs "brooch."
I recall there were some specific European terms for "pins," which Americans are generally unaware of...
My theory was that Americans avoid using either "broach" or "brooch" in favor of "pins," just to avoid pronouncing either incorrectly.

    @ineedhelp ?

I think broach is a spelling error that has been made so often that it has crept into use. If I am listing I use brooch and pin as I know Americans often use the search term pins.
In UK broach means to bring up a difficult subject as it’s main meaning. I’d have to cut my arm off to make myself deliberately use broach instead of brooch.

in order to broach the subject of the sound of brooch.....I'd have to hear both used in a sentence........ wait...what .... :wacky::wacky::inpain:

That's breached not broached if it's a ship.

Broach is used in nautical terms too.
A broach is an abrupt, involuntary change in a vessel's course, towards the wind resulting in loss of directional control.

Yup, but a hole in the hull is a breach.

Really nice to e-see ya, Scouts! :joyful::kiss: I never realized the mis-spelling of 'broach' wouldn't be picked up as a brooch by a search engine?

Same in the United States, KSW!

One of my pet hates is ‘exit’ ‘exactly’ and ‘Brexit’ pronounced ‘eggzit’ ‘eggzactly’ and ‘Breggzit’ :arghh:

I use pin simply because that's what that's what I've always heard it called.

Now if you want to talk about things that drive me nuts - computer auto correct has made people brain dead! It's common to see an apostrophe before every "s" at the end of a word, even when it shouldn't be there. It makes me crazy when I see it used in a plural word, like "I bought 5 CD's today."

"Very unique". "excited for" ....nails, meet chalkboard.:muted::muted::muted::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh: That is of course before predictive text and autocorrect get into the act. It's enough to drive a woman to drink.

    This DRIVES ME EL NUTZO.

No idea where this ** alternative** ie wrong spelling originally came from but I am so sick of seeing it.

Have seen the Chester Draws thing too often now ( Sindy Chester Draws, anyone? I see it once a week as a rule. )
