Featured George III Oak George Suggate longcase clock

    My grandfather clock just got home! It's a George III Oak striking eight-day longcase clock, made by George Suggate (1751 - 1844), a clockmaker from Halesworth, England. The moon phase dial was painted by James Wilson (1755-1809) from Birmingham, who was the most prolific of the early dialmakers whose manufactory produced the finest examples. The moon dial and the false plate of the clock has Wilson marked on it. It has been serviced and is working perfectly. Very happy with the new family member. 1.jpg

    Wow, that's beautiful inside and out! It's a utilitarian item built with such amazing craftsmanship, technical skills and artistry, made to last for generations with the proper care. I just love it! Thanks for posting.

    Lovely! It did need a good clean, didn't it? I have an old case clock with very similar works. What surprised me was the high, clear tone of the loud and piercing bell. I was expecting deep sonorous tones. Is yours that way also?
