I don’t believe this is a US first edition, but there’s no other date on it besides 1911. It’s a mystery.

No mystery. Grosset & Dunlap published reprints of many popular titles, and often did not include the date of their reprints. The 1911 date is correctly identified as the copyright date of the original publication by Charles Scribner's Sons.

I meant it’s a mystery when it was published. I found an almost identical volume online (erroneously and rather foolishly identified as a first edition) that bore this stamp on the dust cover which gives a pretty good clue as to publication date:

Alas, I do not have the dust cover.

I was happy to find it :)
Of course, to be fair, finding fun books at my family’s house is about as difficult as finding something stupid on TV!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Grosset & Dunlap also did reprints of their own reprints sometimes. A friend who is a bookseller did research on them several years ago for a report he wrote about them. I learned a lot about them during that time.

I sometimes collect "photoplay" books. These were usually published in the first half of the 20th century. They were novels illustrated with photographs from later movies that were based on the novels. Grosset & Dunlap published quite a few of that type.
