2 volumes from my 20 book Dickens set

Obviously not first editions, but still fun. What intrigues me is that some volumes were printed by different companies. Which of course I didn’t notice until I was reducing the picture sizes to post, and the books are already packed. I wonder if that was common practice, or if someone assembled the set bit by bit, and they aren’t all the same editions?

 

The second option you listed is more likely. I haven't heard of different publishers printing the various volumes in one set. Seems more likely that somebody assembled a set from different copies they found.

 

Odd - maybe the publisher had a change in name or ownership, or another form of re-organization?
