victorian silver malacca ? wood cane

    hi folks

    this was another cane i picked up at the boot sale for £5

    silver pommel, which dates to 1890 something

    cant seem to find a similar makers mark

    quite long, measures 98cm

    wondering if the wood is malacca ?

    any thoughts appreciated

    Cool thanks aqui, think it's the London leopards head 1893

    Can't find any SHL Mark though

    Malacca cane is jointed like bamboo. It comes from the base of the rattan palm (the vine used to make caning/rattan). The material was imported from areas of southeast Asia around the Malacca Straits, hence the name.

    This is raw malacca cane. You can see the segment divisions are at various angles.

    Thanks for the info tmb, doesn't seem right for Malacca then, probably to heavy a wood as well

    Wonder what wood it is, quite lovely
