I got this lovely silver brooch in a mixed jewelry lot. I know it is French from the word "Depose" stamped on the back, but that is about it. I tried to find something similar, but had no luck. Can't make out the hallmarks- can you? Can anyone tell me something about it? Thanks for your help! 20220312_142234.jpg 20220312_160820.jpg 20220312_160402.jpg 20220312_160412.jpg 20220312_160429.jpg 20220312_141453.jpg 20220312_142039.jpg 20220312_142234.jpg

Thanks, Lynn. I will take a look at the link you supplied. I appreciate the help. I tried several other sites without luck. I am having some trouble deciphering the marks, as they don't seem very clear.

though the word déposé is French, it does not mean that the brooch is French. The same word was used by German companys (esp. in Pforzheim where there were 100s of companies that produced silver jewellery for the international market) to indicate that the design of a piece is protected

@PepperAnna, which mark are you having the most trouble with....the one near the word DEPOSE or the one ON the pin? I can "TRY" to play with it!!

@Aquitaine-- Thank you!! I can't make either of them out. Maybe you can work your magic like you do with the cameo signatures? :)

@MaJa-- thank you for the information. I will look at German hallmarks as well. I combed through the French hallmarks on several sites, but couldn't find anything that matched. I truly appreciate the help.

@PepperAnna, well, there's no magic here....De-noised, sharpened, enlarged, tried everything, also inverted, but still came up with nothing that rang any bells....maybe others will see something....on the pin shaft...all I can see are SORT OF 3 dogs....2 on the shaft (heads--left one sort of sad, right one goofy happy and 1 lower down sort of looking like a terrier head). As for the larger mark below the DEPOSE, I was able to sharpen that up, enlarge, then rotated in every direction, STILL, I got ZILCH for that too.....Inverted too.....to me the mystery remains, but she's a lovely pin!!!!
