Where do you rank Bubba Harris among sculptors?

How good or bad is this in your view?

Any luck on finding other works by him?

Anyone know the country of origin?

It is 9 inches high by 3 inches wide.

 

I wouldn't rank Bubba very high... I don't see much finesse or expressiveness in this piece's carving. But I'm definitely not an expert!

 

I love old carvings, but I would not take this one out of a dumpster - just my personal opinion. That said, there seems to be writing underneath Bubba Harris if you can figure out what it is.

 

Depends on what you're looking for. Is it flammable?

 

"Bubba Harris" sounds like it might be a name from the southern US. If he was the carver (and didn't just write his name over the other writing that seems to be there), he might have been inspired by traditional African art. It is difficult to judge the "quality" of a carving without knowing the context in which it was created. It may simply be a bit of folk art, reasonably well executed.

It could be the same two words then a different last name, like they were overwriting it so it wouldn't fade away "by Bubba _______" There seems to be an S underneath in the wrong place.
