Thanks everyone for your help and support! The sale went far better than I feared, given the state of the house, and the fact that it took me so long to be even halfway ready for the poor abused tag sale folk to set up and take pictures. Apparently there were 75 people in line at one point. Almost all of the things for sale were not high ticket items, but there were a lot of them!

As it was, I think the tag sale folks spent almost as much time trying to puzzle box all the family photos, documents, and memorabilia they found into the little space I had reserved for the not-for-sale stuff. Bless them, they set aside stuff they probably could have sold at a decent price because they knew I’d want them - and I’d thought they would have been destroyed by flooding where I thought they were, so I hadn’t even bothered to tell them to look for the Civil War related stuff.

The sheer quantity of photographs they salvaged is stunning. It will take weeks to sort through once we unpack at the other end.

Here’s a sample of the stuff we’re keeping. More pictures to come, I promise!

P.S. the little cuties on the Christmas card are my Dad (81) and my Uncle David. The license plate belonged to my paternal Grandmother Zita (Drinkwater) Tobin. The couple with the kid are my Mom and Dad. I’m the girl in the backpack carrier.

I'm glad it went well and you have some more treasured family items.

I'll bet you anything that desk is made by Bourn-Hadley in Templeton, MA, the town where I live!

That would be so cool! It’s my great-uncle Charlie’s library table, and I have coveted it since I was a child :)

Yikes. Saw the house, and despite having a successful sale, it looks like I definitely should have scheduled 2 days. There’s so much stuff left! Some I’m just as happy to keep, but there’s no way I can keep all of it.

Well.... There's always the come'n'get it sale idea. Supply boxes and charge by the box load, no matter what's in it. It gives buyers the freedom to haul off the marginal items and gets the house cleaned out with others paying for the privilege. They'd all have to be the same boxes of course.
