I found this today at a thrift store & at first thought it was a Lee Reynolds studio painting until I saw the artist's signature said Candice. When I googled Large Mid Century Painting signed Candice this came up(!):

Large Mid Century Matador Painting by Candace 37 X 37 | Etsy

The signature isn't signed the same but it's the same name & same matador (mine measures 37" x 37" too) - is this a factory painting?
Finally; does anyone know who Candace is/if a real artist?
Just wanted to show you this because of the weird coincidence - thanks for any help with the artist!

I looked closer & the etsy shop is taking a break while she/they move from Florida to Hawaii - I'm in Florida, so maybe they donated painting to thrift because of size when moving to Hawaii - but isn't the signature different or am I crazy?

Both signature and painting are slightly different. Maybe this was a tourist piece or something where Candice made multiples?? Just a guess!

Looks like a product of the Peoples Candace Matador Factory.

Certainly appears to be a factory painting.

I have the same painting. My parents were stationed in Madrid, Spain, before 1969. Unfortunately, my father passed away, and my mother has dementia, so I can't give you any insight into the painting or the artist. Since it appears, a few paintings are floating around. I guess the paintings were replicated in a certain quantity; however, our copies are at least 50 years old.

I suspect they were produced as multiples and sold in the Torrejón PX.

IMG_8864.jpeg I have the same one! As well as a futuristic floating Paris with Eiffel Tower also by Candace. My husband purchased the Eiffel Tower painting from eBay around 2020 and I found the Matador on Etsy in 2021 or 2022. Different sellers and we have no backstory or information. Both paintings are 37“ x 37“ and in the same frame. I have found other paintings by Candace online. They all appear to be ‘originals’ with slightly different signatures as well. Could these have been production paintings for office buildings, banks, hotels, etc.? Regardless, I love them! I’d love to have information on Candace or the backstory on these types of production paintings. IMG_8865.jpeg

They're decorative paintings. And pure 1960s kitsch.

Thanks, Debora. Do you have any more knowledge about these types of paintings? They’re not prints, and each one is slightly unique. Were they sold in gift shops? In US or abroad?

There's lots of information about these types of paintings to be found online. For instance, there's a Mid-Century Art and Factory Art group on Facebook, which as a collector you may find of particular interest.

I know it’s factory mass produced art and all but I like weird floating Paris. Would have been really cool if the Eiffel Tower was a little more detailed and better painted (but yes these factory paintings are obviously not about finer detail)
