    Hello,

I have this helmet from the 1926, the design origins dates from 1822. I Woud like to re-guild it! A professional suggested it was bronze plated, is it right? Was it the common procedure during the 1920's? The most degraded one is mine and the other a restored one, a random example from internet.

    Thanks!

I think if you just give it a clean and a polish it will look much better.
You mention two different things, gilded and bronze plated. It is best to do research into which of the two it was.
Yours is not exctly the same as the one from the internet btw.

    Plating nowadays is usually electro-plating.
Before you have it plated (if you do) it needs to be clean anyway, otherwise the electro-plating solution won't touch the metal, just the dirt layer.
Make sure you get all dirt and polish out of the crevices as well. And who knows, it could even look pristine and won't need plating.
