Doilies, and Pot Holders, and Dresser Scarves, Oh MY!

Hi! I need HELP!

For those of you who’ve seen my other posts, you know that I’ve been enlisted to help my grandma downsize her collections.

I have this huge amount of beautiful things, and I’m not sure how to tackle this.

I know there are things in here that are extremely old and more valuable than some others, but I do not have any expertise. I’m hoping someone here can help me with a direction.

so far, I’m sorting these into piles: full crochet/lace, fabric and crochet combo, fabric with embroidery, colored doilies, and potholders.

I will post more pics of some individual pieces in replies.

The green one would make a lovely doll house rug. I see stacks of these at every estate sale and thrift,I just dont know if theres much of a market these days. Ive got some my grandma made but even I dont use them. And Im all about grandma decor!

 

Yes, very hard to sell, unfortunately.

 

The green one came with the center design pre-needlepointed, and someone at home did the rest. Looks like a footstool cover or similar. The others are a motley mix. In my part of the world you just about have to give them away. I used some this winter for packing material in a Secret Santa exchange on another board. Very happy giftee. People love them, but won't pay money for them.

 

@Northern Lights Lodge do you have any advice for me? If I sell in groups, how should I sort them? I’m feeling lost

Ok... lets' see.

Photo 1-3 are filet net... hand darned. all three photos are backside. The netting is hand worked first - then put on a frame and darned to make the design... 1900-1930ish

Number 4... machine embroidered fabric - 40's 50's.

The two little blue/ecru ones. Machine made lace - I'm thinking that it was a "pocket" and that the rounded edges were sewn on the garment ... apron? child's dress" and that the point part of the lace then draped down the blue. 1930-40/

The cute peacock embroidered doily... perhaps hand done in silks... 1940's -1950's.

Number 8 - crochet edge doily in purple/white... probably 1950-60. If the lace is "wavy" - won't lay flat around the doily... it would have been fluted. HEAVILY starched and pressed to lay in a big convoluted ruff.

Number 9 - aside from hand made crochet on linen... can't tell what the item is. No matter... this one is a bit older... circa late 1800-1900.

Number 10 - Evely nailed it... yes, needlepoint - probably pre stamped and center pre worked... circa 1940-60... for a footstool perhaps

Number 11. Pretty little piece... alot of work for such a small item. Hand crochet + it appears to be hand embroidered floral on the linen fabric. Circa 1900-1910...

Unfortunately, I see nothing of real value there. Any thing damaged... is unlikely to sell by itself.

I've recently had sales on needlepoint pieces like yours... those went for about $30... but were more figural; and landscape... still, yours might fetch about $20. I sold on ebay.

Number 9... I'd need to see the whole piece do determine sale ability.

So if the pieces listed above, fell in my lap to sell... I'd try the needlepoint separately on Ebay. The rest I'd save for a "large lot" of misc pieces, all with damage, for crafts. Etsy is certainly another venue for these items.

I personally prefer working with Ebay. In a way it is more work; as I feel like I need to update listings... mark down, etc and re-list before they fall off the site after listing time runs out.
