    @MrNate
    I found a seller on eBay who gave the measurement of the book at 8.75 inches tall, so... I've MacGyvered the height of the vase at approximately 7 inches. I have no idea how to estimate the weight without knowing how thick the metal is.
    I can't wait for the reveal! How do you do it? And I sure hope this isn't a piece of polished pewter, LOL.

    I was thinking a French mark too Laura:) when googling I found a similar vase, will be interesting to see if Mr Nate's will be the same French maker:)
    As to figuring out the weight, no idea, so looking forward to your tips on how to do that Mr. Nate:)

    The only clues to size I observed were the books, and the sellers hand, so I couldn't begin to guess the weight.

    2 I see the French Minerva Mark. If there is a tiny one in front of the forehead it is .950 and if there is a two under the chin it is .850 if I recall correctly. Either way, well worth 50 bucks.

    I saw what was clearly a punch mark, but couldn't see it well enough to know of it was French, Portuguese or German or what. Figured about 6 to 7 inches high, and well worth gambling on at $50. Brain scale says about 4 ounces, maybe more like 6.

    These are great observations!!! @LauraGarnet02 I especially love your method for the book that is really a unique method and effective! @Frank Honestly the observation of the size of items around the vase is really significant...Of course people can have varying sizes of hands...but we can at least infer this thing isn't miniature and it isn't monstrous...These clues help a lot.

    So here is what I did, and keep in mind the entire goal of what I did was just a basic confirmation that spending $50 was worth the risk. I went and searched on google, the search term was "french silver vase"...and all I was looking for was a vase that looked similar in design, similar in size, and therefore hopefully similar in weight. Here was the listing I settled on as my "comparable item"...You see, it's absolutely true that the size will be a little different, it's absolutely true that manufacturers may use wildly different amounts of silver to make something, so this is all an educated guess. But if I am searching for the right country, in a similar size, and in a similar style, I have much better odds of getting to a "good enough" estimate. So here is the item I found to make an estimate of the weight of my piece:

    Note the auctioned vase had a weight of 360 grams. That was a number I would have been tremendously happy with. I wasn't expecting mine would be that heavy, but hopeful of course.

    Here's mine:

    congrats, you did well Mr Nate:)
    I didn't even think about that Mr. Nate, so thank-you for pointing it out:) The vase I found was from a different maker, 16cm and only weighed 180 gr, so that is quite the difference in weight from the listing you posted:)
    Thank-you for posting this game:)

    I found this one, again with the stamp, but initially I thought the soft sheen colour of yours and the quality of the work said it was a good piece worthy of buying and as cxgirl said thanks for posting the game.

    Great score once again! :singing:

    I saw the stamp in the front but couldn't make heads or tails out of it. Where were the other marks visible? Can someone circle those?

    Learning here! Thanks.

    I have a few(hundred) items to identify. Mr Nate seems like a pro at silver. Maybe he can give pointers on how to show a item or two and I might get the hang of it. That was great fun that game was Mr Nate. I seem to get to posting and pics and give up. I’m buried. But I made chicken soup today in the midst of gale winds, driving sideways rain and hail so I’m happy I still have something entertains to follow up on.
