Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and I hope you can help me.
I’ve found and bought this box on-line. It has a huge emotional value for me and I'm curious to know more about its "story".
It’s made of wood and leather. It has the Normandy Coat of Arms hand painted on it and a strange spiral carved inside. I've tried to clean it and the studs turned out to be "golden".
It was made in Normandy. The the girl who sold me it couldn’t date it. She said it’s really old, but she couldn’t tell me more.
Can you help me date it? Have you got any idea of its use? I can’t find anything on-line! Thank you!

Cool box! Reminds me of the Spanish Revival look of the 19-teens. It may be a late 19th century gent's dresser box, for their removeable collars, cuffs, studs and what-nots. Not quite sure if it's big enough for the turn-of-the-century stiff collars though. Could the spiral inside be from lathe-turning marks?

Something like that. I don't think it had anything to do with Normandy, but it's a nice survivor. A lot of these were binned when they went out of fashion.

Same! I even though that maybe the box is "modern" and that the leather is antique and was applied lately. Maybe it was part of something else, like a sheath or so...

It's the Duke of Normandy's Coat of Arms (2 golden leopards on a red background). I'm sure about that because it's my ancestor's (that's why this box is so important to me! ).
I think it's too small to be a treenware since it's as big as my hand, but thank you very much for the suggestion!
    sez, Alessandra !!!!

I think it's a bit too small for a stiff collar, but yes, it really looks like "spanish revival"! I'm so confused because it should come from Normandy (or UK)... idk

So you've seen something like this before elsewhere? :jawdrop:

    JMHO.
I'd reseach also in the direction of the luxury liner Normandie that had an art deco interior by Pierre Patout, founder of the "style paquebot".
items with odd numbers of corners - here seven it seems - would fit the bill as well.
