I bought a couple of boxes of stuff at auction and there was a bundle of Glenn Miller stuff in it. This is way out of my scope so just wondered what any one thought, do people collect this stuff or is it scrap?
Job lot on eBay or a few photos at a time?
No idea if they are originals or old reprints but some seem to be personal family type photos or maybe just from an avid fan? This is just a small selection of the bundle.
The 1953 BBC radio record is interesting as the cover has been hand made and drawn and says ‘collectors item’ in the corner.
    Any ideas please
    Thankyou :)

I found 3 of those photos on a Google search fairly quickly, so...a scrapbook of sorts would be my guess. See what others think

Just going on a hunch but I have no idea. When I was a kid I dragged my fathers box of vinyl out of a closet or the basement or somewhere. It was a really fun discovery process for a young music lover. The Black Sabbath paranoid cover cried out to me! “Play me!!!”. Inagaddadavida or however it’s spelled blew my mind. Grateful Dead Workingman’s Dead looked so cool! I detested it. Now I’m a huge Dead fan though. I found a copy of The Who Live at Leeds. I opened it up, probably the first time in at least 20+ years anyone had touched it. What I found was documents, signed documents, important documents. Probably some photos too. I hit the mother load! Somehow my father had ended up with a band members or band managers copy of the record. I had a Woodstock contract SIGNED! Holy sh*t! Rock n roll treasure! Worthy of the RR HOF buying and displaying it. This was in the 90s. The internet wasn’t quite as much of a thing. Somehow I still did some research at found out that a certain number of copies of this album were released with facsimile contracts and documents for collectors. SH*T back to being poor and without any important belongings in an instant. Maybe it was that punch in the gut that inspired me to try to collect things that do or may end up having importance. Maybe you have one of those editions? Dang British tricksters. Maybe the real treasure was connecting with my father via his music. Cheesy silver lining to wrap it up lol.

Lol, I have to say I didn’t get that excited by Glenn Miller! I think I will dump it all on eBay and see what happens.

List the BBC record separately, it's a different collector's field.

And actually, before you do that, contact the BBC Radio archivist. Most of these early recordings were live or destroyed later. The Beeb are desperate to get back lost ones.

Take a look in the unrecorded area around the labels for any letter, number combinations.

It may be what is called an transcription disc. These were distributed to radio stations as supplemental programming, advertising, etc.

Some have an strong chemical smell. Those usually are a lacquer coated aluminium.

It is surprising that it has no information on the label. They often provide basic information such as what it is, speed, inside or outside start and running time.

Said transcription discs are how the BBC has retrieved much archive stuff. They went overseas and weren't junked.
