True, no primer and how many GI's carried a flaring tool with them into battle. Guessing an India repro

Flaring tool= a piece of wood and a hammer.

That would be a tapered piece of wood - and hammers make noise when you are trying to avoid the enemy finding out your position............

Remember - NOT saying it isn't a shell as there were millions left everywhere after the war. Just saying it seems to be a newer repro..........

While the soldiers were in the trenches..... the enemy knew where they were.

Some were, for a short time, but that piece... I has me doubts. It looks too good.

It looks like a brass tube soldered to a brass plate, not a spent shell.

I think " trench art" is a broad term used to Identify anything made of a spent shell casing ...people made "trench art" during the Vietnam war .... The question remains to be answered...shell or not ? hard to say ........

Interesting. I didn’t know it was such a broad term. I always thought it was related to items made more on the ‘spot’ and in the ‘action’ (so to say) with whatever the soldiers had handy or surplus.

Did the seller not have any back story on this? Where or how did he get it?
