Entrenching Tool

Discussion in 'Antique Discussion' started by Len Carroll, Dec 21, 2018.

  1. I think this is some sort of military entrenching tool from WWI but not for sure. I have found some various letters on it including NY for New York. Any ideas let me know.

Welcome to the Forum, Len! :)
I resized your photo. Must be 1mb or less.
Maybe you can add photos of the markings you see.

    Welcome Len.
I hope not, it would have taken them ages.

No problem! I only bring it to attention so other people can follow along.

Welcome, Len! We can't see any of the letters you mentioned. Any chance of getting a close look at them?

The only 'entrenching' tools I've seen had a long, folding handle - probably for better leverage while digging.

  10. The letters are not legible in a pic. They are in the middle of the blade and a magnifying glass is needed to see them. The reason I feel this is military as it was in a WW 1/ Indian War collection I recently acquired. It was tagged with a number but I don't have the corresponding index. Thanks for the info!

Can't really tell from the photo but is it scooped like a shovel or flat or maybe solidly rounded on both sides like a dibble?
