Hi everyone. I'm new here. I'm from manila and my clan has kept some stuff from the spanish, japanese, american era here. I really have no idea about antiques. Maybe your expertise and advise can help me out. First is about this Jar. I don't know the exact age of it but it has been in the family around 70 to 80 years already. Can someone help me identify this jar? I got 4 pieces of it. It's like yellow green and about 2ft tall. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome! I don't know much about pottery other than what I like and I really like your jar. Very attractive jar. Have you asked anyone in your family, especially the older people, if they remember using these jars or where they came from? 70-80 years ago would have been about the end of WWII. They appear to be well cared for. I'll be watching this thread to see what others have to say.

Hi and welcome to the board! I'm getting a Southeast Asia vibe from this, I'd have guessed Cambodia or something like that so really in your area. I'm no expert though but there are some others around here that probably will know more.

I was wondering if the emblem on the bottom is actually a country or province. I have no idea.

Made in Taiwan in month "50.9" (September 1950.) You have nice jugs.

These jars were used by my great great grandma as storage for salt and vinegar. We didn't know the exact year when and where it was acquired. I mean 70 to 80 years under the oldest living person. It is possibly okder since it is from my great great grandma.

The markings are near the opening. The other jar has different markings. Some chinese characters so maybe chinese origin. Thanks for the help guys.

If all of the jugs are of the same shape and have the same geartooth pattern on the top half, I'd suspect they are all Taiwanese, even if the markings differ. If the markings are all in a cartouche on the side like the first one, there's another reason to think they might be related. I don't know much about ceramics but have some experience with Asian manufactured goods.

Good work. This site has some explanation and offers jars from "the factory in Linkhou, Taiwan."

Chinese Taiwanese Rice Wine Jars-Unique Decoration/ Gift-Holiday Special Price
~~Traditional Taiwanese/Chinese rice wine jars from the factory in Linkou, Taiwan. These earthenware rice wine jars were handmade by trained potters to meet the correct height, weight and wall depth specifications given by the government. The upper part of the jars were stamped with paddles to give different styles of texture. Most of the jars have a chop identifying the factory names, date or type of wine. They are over 50 years old and stand 20" tall. These are unique collector's items as very few have made it to the USA. Having lived in Taiwan, I had the opportunity to collect some of these jars. They will add a unique look to your decor and are great displayed with dried flowers/grasses or empty. Style may vary from pictures. Accessories can be purchased separately.
    Must see to appreciate!

Asking $100 each. Holiday special price $88.

The mark on the first one is an outline of Taiwan.
