I am trying to determine the age and style to attribute to this necklace which is marked 925, weighs 104 grams and is 16 inches in length.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. 20220220_185335_copy_477x1008.jpg 20220220_185327_copy_477x1008.jpg 20220220_185411_copy_477x1008.jpg 20220220_185343_copy_477x1008.jpg

In the lower middle portion of the reverse of the large medallion it says 925.

I'd have thought India or Tibet.

Thank you for your judgments about this piece. With this information I have found one or two similar and the Origins are Asian.

I believe this is a more modern piece. Probably Tibetan. I was at a bazar in Wilmington a couple of years ago and a couple was selling similar pieces.

Thank you. I did do a Google image search and found many similar pieces although most did not report the 925 stamp.

No problemo. I left out that I am always skeptical of pieces from this area so best to get the metal tested :)

Hi, I have seen Afghani jewelry like this...More detail and finer quality like this one you have...The Tibetian ones I have seen are not as finely crafted

Thanks for that perspective. I will delve into it in more detail. This is important information for me!

Afghanistan? Yep. I'd go with that. No particular great age on it either.

Any general consensus on when .925 marks came into common use? I know 925-1000 and 925/1000 were used in 19th and early 20th. When I see .925 I usually just assume last 40-50 years or newer. Was it in use before that much?

I haven't seen it much on older pieces, if at all, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. Just the plain .925 that is. If it's part of a full hallmark things get murkier.
