Hello everyone! I'm happy to finally join an antique forum, as I have a great interest in antiques, and normally purchase stuff fairly regularly. I figured I would introduce myself with an item that is by far my most favorite. I metal detect very regularly as a hobby, almost exclusively at colonial era locations, and was extremely lucky to pull this extremely rare "No Stamp Act 1766" button out of the dirt earlier this month. Another dug example in worse condition sold for $9000 in auction back in 2009, though I have no intention of selling this amazing piece of history, and I doubt that I would ever get $9000 for it at auction anyway. It is cuff size, of the few examples I could find, no other ones were cuff size, just coat size. Cuff buttons are a little bit rarer because coats from that era typically contained more buttons than would be found on cuffs. It is also known to be the first American political button made in the USA. Anyways, I am very happy to be a member of this forum, and I hope you enjoyed my story! I hope to post many more antiques in the future, and will enjoy reading everyone's posts on here.

Welcome and thank you so much for showing your find. Have you done any detecting around Charleston or other civil war areas. My dream should I ever have time.

Thanks! I wish I could try any area where Civil War conflict was present, but being in NH, the chances are extremely slim of finding anything military. For some reason, the site where I found this button produced two War Of 1812 era buttons, Navy and Light Artillery. My only explanation is that there were brothers who went to fight in the war, in two different branches of military, came back and lost a few buttons. No battle was fought anywhere close to here. It also is a dream for me to metal detect down in Charleston or other areas with Civil War activity, hopefully one day I will be able to go down there! Good luck, hopefully both of us will get the chance to metal detect there!

Thanks! During Christmas break I hope to get out to that site again, and hopefully a new one that I found too. I will let you guys know if I find anything else cool! I hope to make a display to put on loan at the local museum or library this winter, of local metal detecting finds. I have done this before, and hope I will be able to find some more stuff for it before the end of the year.
