I think it is a lovely Christmas present, Johnny. What looks like bubbles could be specks of dust, but I'm with Marie, in this case it is impossible to tell whether those are genuine stones or glass. This bracelet is more about the design, the contrast between the chunky stones and the sweet floral links. I think it was made in Thailand.
Yes, it's modern. Yes, the stones might be glass. But, it is exceedingly pretty and I'd be delighted if someone gave me it.
Agree with all "lovely" comments above I specially love the fantasy cut of the stones Of course, agree too it is nearly impossible to tell what they are only from general pic... Perfect gift!
(not important to the thread because this is a lovely gift no matter anything else, but OMG, I thought it would be easy to find the history of the checkerboard facet pattern. Not for me!)
Johnny, if I were given that as a gift, I'd be perfectly delighted!!!! Mom should be very happy!!!! Love it!
There were checkerboard cut types in the 1930's I believe.Lapidary Journal and other magazine were publishing designs in the 60's,then the Windows 3.1 program and GEMCAD for Windows95 and it is still used today. But without a specific design name for the stone it would probably be impossible to date just the stone and not one which was cut 40 years after the design was published. https://www.google.com/search?q=che...xIMKHZduBZQQ_AUIDigB&biw=1541&bih=872#imgrc=_
Oh no, it wasn't about dating a particular stone (or this piece) -- I just thought it would be easy to uncover when checkerboard facets were first used... but I can't find much of anything on the history.
Many thanks everyone for the comments. I hope Mom likes it but shes a simple gal and IM the one with flashy tastes!
