Featured Purpose of use bakelite? Eagle? Head?

Hi,
I need help with the materiaal used to carve this bird head and the purpose of use.



And if possible age and the origin

it's 10 cm long and 4 cm high. Thanks in advance and greeting

 

Looks like the decorative handle of a walking stick/cane..

 

It could be; would suit someone with small hands.

 

Looks like carved horn to my eye.

 

Or umbrella handle.

I see some sort of knot or growth rings. Does horn also these types knots?

 

Bakelite would be molded, not carved, so it wouldn't be that.

 

At first, I thought cane handle, but I don't understand the pointy end part or the slashes across the head. These could prove dangerous and uncomfortable. I'm thinking some kind of decorative native piece missing the handle.

 

5th image down....the close-up of the hole.....to me those look like some sort of 'growth rings', i.e., maybe as @sabre123 suggested some sort of horn....?

 

The striations in the first pic seem to resemble horn to me, but see what others think. I am no expert on the subject, but I would think you could get anomalies/"knots," and peeling in horn as seen in your piece.

Maybe a hornbill? The profile isn't quite right, but I can see some carver having a giggle.

Wonderfull! You found a similar example. Can i sell this without a walking stick? An what can i ask for it?? @Kronos can you let us know how much this exemple sold for?
