Hi there, I just scored this beautiful Butler's Table from my local auction for the amazing low price of $35! It's in great condition.

I can't find any maker's mark on it anywhere and I have gone over the entire underside with a flashlight, nothing to indicate who made it?

The best information I can provide to all of you furniture experts is that it looks like walnut, or could it be oak with a dark stain? The sides all fold up nicely and hold their position. It's 35 wide x 25 x 16 inches tall with the sides up and 45 x 35 with them folded down. It's solid wood and guessing it weighs 20 or 25 pounds. They used slotted type screws to hold it together and small staples in the corners. The legs have a 4-ridge ornamental detail on the two outward facing sides.

You can see in the photos the cross inlay on the table top and the book matched pieces. It appears to be good quality furniture making and materials. Anyone know something about it? Thanks for your help.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

The top seems to have a nice finish, but underneath, I'm never quite thrilled to see staples holding something together (in the corner photo), and on the bottom it also looks like it's been re-stained.....not necessarily a negative, unless seeing 'runs' like I think I see, but, PLEASE, wait for others to check in.....they may have MUCH MORE POSITIVE comments.....I have always like those butlers tables!!

Relatively modern with that particle board substrate. Does look like walnut but could be something else with a stain (tropical hardwood?). Not oak for sure.

nice. depends where you are. on the continent out of nowhere they showed up in the 1980s in abundance. most ended in basements, attic etc. because people didn't think about the place they use before buying them.
many where made in Germany, especially with these shot staples.

I'm in Northern California. I was guessing it's from the 70s or 80s. Thanks for the info. @verybrad BTW, it doesn't have any particle board. It's all solid wood. Looks good in my living room. Price was right.

Last photo with the screw hole looks like particle board. Maybe just rough-sawn wood?

Yes, I think rough sawn wood and sloppy stain refinishing. But agree with you mid to late 20th century or so. A lot of US factories were making these as coffee tables.

I recognize this one. A usable coffee table for $35 is a good deal if you like the design.
