    Hi all. Picked this up at an estate sale and no one was really sure what exactly the stones are. its 7 1/2 inches long,marked "925" and its probably mothers christmas gift. Shes impossible to buy for ! Any info yall could give such as possible age,stone,etc would be gratefully received.Just wanted to add it has a toggle clasp,if that makes any difference.

    Is is more green than yellow? I understand different computers show colours differently. Could be a golden Topaz, 8 on the MOHs scale, citrines register as 7. Looks a more green which could make it a peridot. Await those more knowledgeable than me. Stones are cut nicely.

    Some kind of quartz at least, and vintage last week. My guess would be Indian or Chinese, and somebody did some actual hand work on it. It was made probably somewhere in the last decade or two.

    Sorry to be a bummer, but it is impossible to tell what the stones are from a photo. They need to be tested. They could be anything listed above or they could be glass. Can you find someone with a gem tester to let you know what you have?

    Interesting............. the stone in the second photo right hand side appears to have a bubble in it.

    Is it inaccurate to say faceted stones are generally within last 20 years?

    The 3rd photo also looks like something inside,the silver castings are full of porosity and excess solder on the hinges.

    @scoutshouse

    One of the faceting clubs in Oregon had over 1200 diagrams published before 1985.Nationally someone published a free faceting design program for windows 3.1 a little later.The designs on the stones could be from 40 years ago.

    I don't think it matters whether it was made yesterday or 10 years ago.
    It is lovely and should be worn.
    Give it to your mom.

    I'm at the point that it doesn't matter anymore whether it is fine jewelry or costume, as long as it matches my outfit. The flashier the better.
