Is this mid Victoria brass and wood cross?

Found this in a costume jewellery lot. It’s clearly very special. Feels great in the hand due to its weight and soft brass.

Anyone know a rough date on this? And place of origin?

Crucifix rather than cross. How big is it?

Edit: Oops, sorry, you mentioned wood in the title <facepalm>

Is there actually wood set in the brass, or is it all brass?

I suspect it's from a rosary. Might be olive wood.

Doesn't look like olive from here. The grain is wrong. I've seen a fair number similar, and any marks would have been on the miraculous medal. Odds are the rosary beads were wooden too.

Looks like a priest’s pectoral crucifix, from what I found online.

Yes 100% wood inset, you can see in the pics where the wood has dried ans cracked, plus it would be extra heavy if it was all brass..

Maybe 60mm length, not got a tape at moment.

What would it be worth? £12? More?

If it was olive wood that would mean it was from the Mediterranean area? Spanish. Greek, Cypriot, Italy (Catholic etc?)?

It's certainly Catholic and Mediterranean is a good possibility.

A lot of these were made in the late 19th century in Schwäbisch Gmünd, southern Germany, and inlaid with locally sourced bogwood.
