Found this today thrift store hunting - anyone heard of the artist? I found 1 link where she made the cover of some magazine - and facebook; not much in between.
    Any thoughts on the work?
    Thanks all

I'm not at all sure that is the right artist, but could be.

Hard to say -- someone by that name seems to work in a lot of very different styles. Here's a page where the "cayman man" suggests some similarity in technique to that used on the "old Cuban":

There's a link on that page as well that you can use to contact her...

I don't think it's the same person either. Way different style of art work. Who ever did it did decent work but reminds me of college art exhibit work.

In Spanish, "ciclo" translates to "cycle" but in this context it means a series of recurring events like an expo that took place annually.

Journeymag, I think ALL of the links are to the same artist who painted the portrait art you bought. I think the "cuban cigar man" is earlier than the Tulane work. Similar cloud, sky, mountain elements can be seen in the face of the portrait. Just my opinion. :cat:

I agree. Won't be shocked either way, but I'm definitely in the "her early work" camp.

    Yes, please!

I found this link, @journeymagazine to show you that it appears the artist has a link with the New Orleans area, there are at least two references in the photographs listed here, "Dooky Chase Restaurant" and "NOLA" written in the sky.

I will be interested to watch your painting if you put it up for bid on ebay or other auction site.

Not that it's of much use as you have her working name but... your artist's full name is Carolina Casusol Valle.

On my phone right now, so little chance of me getting a working link, but if no one else has posted by the time I'm back on my computer, I'll post two pieces. One was on her site and the other was on a blog article.

That said, it's also completely conceivable for an artist to have pieces floating around that aren't in their "style" at all. Class assignments, early works, experimentation, pre-enlightenment, unpolished skills, a special request from a friend, marketability -- all sorts of reasons for artists to have pieces that don't "fit" their more publicized/current works.

Nice! I saw the "v" in the printed name on the back, but never matched it up with anything.

I went to the link which took me to Carola Casusol .com - and all I see are bare walls? Am I missing something?

Reading through the responses I saw figtree's mention of the link at top od Carola's website - but I didn't see anything there that looks like the old man?
But as Debora shows - with the complete name I guess it is her?
I will send her a email with a photo of my painting & see what she says; I promise to post her response!

There are a few links at the top. One goes to the biography page that I directly linked. Another is the "Paisaje" link to which I referred in a comment.
