Grandma wore this even when she was working on the farm. I've worn it but it has been packed away for a long time. I don't know how to clean the years of sweat and dirt off the inside - any suggestions? It looks like there is / was a mark on the male part of the latch. Other than the ages of sweat and dirt, it is still beautiful.

Opps! How do I eliminate the second set of pictures?

The subject of how to remove it has been discussed in many previous threads; a search for 'verdigris' should get you started. Applying ketchup & leaving it for a while has been a favorite recommendation.

I wouldn't apply ketchup to this piece. I don't see any verdigris.

Me personally, I would squirt it with 50-50 ammonia and water. Drop in a bowl of Dawn detergent and water and swish. Then rinse well with water.

The black around the flowers and leaves is probably original and intentional.
The inside is worn, you probably won't improve it.

Beautiful probably gold filled bracelet, most likely late Victorian. The black is enamel decoration. Love it!!!

If you go the ketchup route, please do not leave it on more than about 15 minutes. You may have to repeat but leaving on too long can strip the plating!

Thank y'all. Think I will start with the ammonia method first. If all else fails, will take it to my local jeweler.
Marie, I think it is Victorian, too, and probably gold filled.
    I love it.

I see similar called gold filled hinged taille D’Epargne. I think they might be morning glories. Not sure of either. :)
