I'm more a military collector (looking forward to helping on that forum), but I also like most things old :) But I dont know much about pottery, glass and am looking forward to learning. I've gathered a few things over the years and am wondering if they are anything other than just pretty to me.

This is a redware or slipware bowl I picked up. It measures 13" at the widest and the handles are an extra 1" on each end, narrow width is 9 1/2" and is about 3 1/4" deep. It has a floral slipware design, mostly yellowish fern like designs with some spattering of lighter whitish green.

I am wondering if it has any age, possible maker or region it came from and approximate date?

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Welcome! This is definitely a great place to learn - and where you will find lots of people like me who are grateful for the expertise of others.

speaking of which, posting pictures as full images rather than thumbnails (which is the default) is very helpful for those who need to see details to make an informed comment :)

I like it... and welcome to Antiquers, @dunmore1774 !

I hope somebody can help with some info about this. It's not my area of expertise.

    Hi dunmore and welcome!

Just so you don't think you're being ignored (which is never the intent) I suspect the right person may not have seen your piece.

I think part of the problem is that rustic redware with slip decoration is and has been made many places in the world. If the decoration is common in a specific area someone may recognize it, hopefully.

My kneejerk reaction when I saw it was Mexican which I do like but don't study. Then on further reflection and some googling I realized that the decoration wasn't exactly like some of the most familiar patterns so I feel I can't offer real aid.

Have you looked very closely for any (possibly tiny or blurred) impressed or inked marks on the base?

Like the others, my gut reaction was Mexican. However, the decoration and exact form does not match any Mexican pottery I can find. Think this needs more research.
