Antique Metal Stand Or What????

I'm not sure what this item is but I hope someone can tell me.Look like a large candleholder or it hold something but what.

 

Possibly a stand for an old feather or tinsel tree.

My first thought was a Xmas tree holder..it's kinda that time of year to think of such things..... but on closer look, if it were a tree holder or to hold a tall object, the base would be flat or curved downwards to give it a greater balance at the circumference where it touches the ground.
As it's shaped more like a saucer, I'm leaning towards a candle holder

 

Wodawolly the candle would have to be a large one.Whatever it is,it's really neat.Thanks

Hi,
I needed six huge candles for a screen in front of an altar in the church I was helping restore. The church store wanted 125 dollars each. I made them out of Pringles potato chip tubes and left over candle stubs. Took five canisters to make each one. Hundreds of old candle stubs. The only thing was took longer than I thought since it was fours days for the wax to solidify. The cost was just my time and a savings of over 700 dollars.

Yeah I'm thinking you're probably right about it NOT being a candle holder. The design doesn't make sense. You couldn't get the candle stub out of it once the old wax has melted around the base of it....

I always DID want a good excuse to buy potato chips! Even Pringles.
