Hi everyone. I have these three great photographs that are stamped Morley Baer and seem authentic. They are all just under 8" x 10". I've read about him online, and have seen some big prices for his work. Three questions, if I may: Do they look authentic to you too? Are these gelatin prints? Since I don't do ebay, how might I go about selling them? Thank you as always!
How did you come by them? Do they all have print numbers on them? (That will help you identify.) The coastal scene is 'South Rock. Garrapata Beach. 1967.' On offer here. http://www.scottnicholsgallery.com/artists/morley-baer/ Debora
One does not have a number, two do. These were in a lot I purchased at auction. The lot was of photos by another photographer, and those ones do not seem esp interesting. These three were in with them.
All three have the same stamp w his name and do not reproduce warnings. The other photographer is Lucas Kiers. And thank you for your help once again Debora!
I'm not in the know, but would think, if the photographer is deceased (as he is) and you were able to purchase them at auction and they are still being sold, then would still think you might find an auction that YOU could sell them at!! He WAS a famous Photographer, so that's a good start!!
lovely photos. the one of Arcos de la Frontera in the Nichols Gallery - is very interesting in itself; there are collectors in Spain that started to search for unknown sights of the Franco era after he was finally dead.
Selling them at auction with well known auction houses would probably be the way to go. Bonham's, Heritage, Skinners and other well known auction houses would be interested in these. Most have submission forms on their website. If their interested, they will give you an estimate. Before listing, get all the facts about commissions, insurance, setting reserves and payout waiting period.
I did not. Someone contacted me and we went back and forth but when it came to shipping them to Hungary, and customs etc it faded away.
Too bad. The good news is you’re not into them for much and this is the type of thing that can sit for years until the right buyer comes around. It’s always interesting when you’ve had something listed for years and then one day you open eBay and it’s sold all of a sudden.
