LOL. Wondering if anyone can guess at the age. I am torn on this one but I can only find similar ones with the title Pirates Chest on the internet. But not knowing a lot about chests but my gut wants to say reproduction but an old one but I am just not sure. The bottom has tiny metal wheels on it. The nails holding it together are bent over on the inside. And it is very heavy. TIA IMG_6866.JPG

I can make out Pat. on one side and on the other it is N R 77 then a star.

Try searching 'dome top steamer trunk'. Looks pretty old to me, except for the leather handles.

"Pat." actually is PAT'D (patented), and the other side has APR. 77 (April 1877)

It's not unusual to have a couple patent dates on older pieces and there's probably one after the word, PAT'D that you cannot read.

Thanks you guys. I really appreciate it. I just wasn't sure. I bought it from a lady for $20 she called it a toy chest. And when I went to pick it up she had to dumped all the toys out of it. So I guess it was a pretty good deal.

    Late 1800s early1900s.
    It's not a chest, but a trunk.
Steamer trunk, barrel top trunk, dome top trunk are all descriptions for this type of trunk.
