Featured Picked up this old rug beater for .50. How old is it?

    Got this rug beater at a garage sale at a very beautiful, but run down old house. Curious how old it is? It's too fragile to be used, but it looks pretty hanging on the wall. :)

    I saw one like this for sale advertised as "Victorian". Could this be that old?

    Very likely victorian, we had 3 when I was young, left in our attic.

    Don't worry about "fragile" having beaten mats and carpets, to me they are virually

    unbreakable.

    OMG, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole, looking at rug beaters. I found they are still made, and many are even available for sale on Amazon. Then, because I have several small rugs that might benefit, I started looking at some of the Amazon reviews... :wideyed:
    Apparently, they are popular for use between consenting adults.

    (I do believe yours looks Victorian due to the handle. It sounds like it has become dry/brittle with age? HERE is one with the same woven shape as yours.)

    Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

    I will still use a metal one on a small rug or two on occasion!!! HEY, They get the job DONE without always dragging out the VAC!!!!
