Yes, you did read that right, a stonking great 4” nail!
Just wondering if anyone was aware of this brand as I’d not heard of it before.
Two necklaces I picked up today because they looked interesting. Turns out they were a good pick at £1.75 each as they are quite expensive.
The nail one has ‘I can do anything’ on it. No idea the significance of the nail, it has a slightly uncomfortable crucifixion feel about it:meh:
The other one I haven’t pinned down on line yet, just a similar Sterling one in a cube cage.
Not sure what the metal is, the one I found on the internet says the nail is 18k plating over bronze and the other one I have no idea.
Looking on their website they have similar stones in rings in their Herkimer Diamond Collection so I presume this is the same gemstone, but what is the black inclusion? Is there such a thing as black quartz?
    Thanks for looking :)

Yep, that is (black) onyx. Black inclusions in quartz are commonly tourmaline.

If it is an actual Herkimer crystal, the black is likely limestone matrix.

I have a Herkimer diamond with similar black:

I don’t think I’ll ever get my head around all the types of stones!
Beautiful! I’ve not come across them before.
I think it is HD as the website has a ‘Collection’ of pieces.

Yep the naming system is a complete mess due to people not realising many crystals were the same thing back in the day as they were unable to test effectively. I think there are about 30 names for chalcedony now, and calcedony itself is a form of quartz. Then there all the modern egregious names which are pure marketing crap.

My references suggest black inclusions in these are usually hydrocarbon which is interesting - so coal or even some oil in liquid phase inclusions.

I know that there are Herkimers that are crystal clear - no inclusions. Beautiful things.

Back in the '60s, my father and I belonged to a local rock club (Geological Society) that made an annual trip to Herkimer. We never went. That stopped when an interstate went through that paved over the prime collecting ground.
