I found this at a thrift store; they were asking $200 but I got it for $125 (I offered that because when I did an image search the ones I saw for sale were for $800 - $1,100+)

What is the trim - aluminum? silver?!

    Are the blue pieces tile?

Is there any way to tell how old it is?

    It measures 23"H x 10"W

Thanks for any help (especially - did I get a good price for it?!)

Looks great! Steep price, but it's quite attractive.

Appears that there's a ceramic vase inside the metal.

That type of ceramic ware encased in openwork metal comes from Safi, Morocco. The metal is not precious and the base is not composed of individual tiles. Your piece appears to be modern. Scale adds to its attractiveness as does the exuberance of the metal overlay.

Looks aged rather than old, but still probably cost that much

I think “urn” or “jar” might be a better term than vase, since it has a lid, but given how little I know, I could easily be wrong. With the same caveat, I’ve never had solid silver get quite that shade of green tarnish, except at points where solder is involved. Old silver plated bits are a different story.

That said, there is something about this piece that interests me, and statistically speaking that indicates that it could be older than I am and expensive when new.

Quite a piece, journey.:) It isn't very old, just an eyecatcher. A lot of work went into that.
Safi.:) The ceramics capital of Morocco, on the Atlantic coast, famous for combining ceramics with metal.
    Silvertone base metal.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Someone will like it for their decor. I hope you do well with it. :)

Is it from Fez or Safi?
