This cabinet belonged to my mother in law. She inherited it from her mother. I believe they lived on Long Island, NY. It has a kind of faux painted burl design with flowers on the top and front and the door is held closed with a wooden swivel lock. Anyone know where this piece was made and how old it is? I have tried researching it many times and couldn't find anything similar.

It measures 26.5 in wide, 30 in tall, 15 in deep.

I saw a larger piece of furniture with this design on it while watching the Anne with an E TV show on Netflix. I have no idea if the set design on the show is historically accurate but the story takes place in the 1890s. See photo. Any information on this piece would be very appreciated! Thx! 20220203_095121.jpg 20220203_095141.jpg 20220203_095154.jpg 20220203_095324.jpg 20220203_095245.jpg AnneNetflix-Interior-Farmhouse-1140x696.jpg

Looks like a charming pine washstand ca. 1880 with a "cottage" paint job. Hard to tell if the paint has ever been enhanced or not; the drips on the interior of the door make me think so. Anyway, it projects the original feel. It probably would have been part of a bedroom set that included a dresser and bed frame painted in a similar fashion.

Oh, and it might have had a backsplash or gallery at one time; check the upper back for empty holes where wood screws may have been. It's likely that your washstand was made in NYC due to geographical proximity, but I suppose it could have been made in Nova Scotia or Labrador, ha ha. That's a joke, except the NYC part.

Ms. G and I watched "Anne with an E" and I think the set pieces are generally pretty accurate. This washstand could have been used in Canada in the 1890s.

Agree with the above. Nice to see cottage furniture with paint. So much of this has been stripped over the years.

Thank you so much for the info! That is wonderful to know. I would never ever ever paint it. It's a little gem and I love it. Anne with an E was such a sweet show. I was devastated when they cancelled it. lol Thank you so much for the information.
