Hi Judy, I’ve got a pair of antique dolls that I’d love some members’ advice on. I bought them years ago on the Portabello Road and I think they might be Afghani as they are in costume. I can’t work out how to post a picture of them here. Can you advise me please ?

    Hi Jane!

I wish I could help, but.......I'm not familiar with either doll, but I think @BoudiccaJones could be of help.

Have you looked for any marks? Often marked on the back of the neck, upper or lower back. And just sometimes, the bottom of the feet.

    Sometimes clothes are tagged.

    Are they plastic?

    Hard plastic or soft vinyl?

    Very cute!

@Any Jewelry is your source for Country representation.

I'm wondering if the boy is from Israel?

Is that a Yamaka cap he is wearing?

They’re some sort of bisque I think. All the clothes including the leather boots are beautifully made. Thanks for the lead - I’ll see what she thinks !

It’s the wrong shape for a Yamaha I think. I wondered if they might even be Russian

I actually quite like these & I usually only like fashion dolls. I think they could be made of composition not bisque but hard to see in these pics, light's in the wrong place x
If I *had* to guess I'd say 50s ish, maybe souvenir dolls but as I say this is not my area. Hopefully Miss AJ'll be around soon to tell us which country they represent x

If you agree,@Jane Fairman, I'll take the pics and ask my friends. Someone may know xx

(Think they are newer than compo anyway so I was wrong!)
Consensus seems to be Chinese made and some sort of ceramic, probably 70s. As I say though these are not my type of thing but that does seem to be what most of my dolly friends think xx
