Anyone know this mark? Believe it’s an F. Believe it’s a shaving mug. Pretty nicely made. Came from a good old wealthy estate so figured it’s worth checking on. 963E3914-B4FA-40B1-B81A-E8A9C948D089.jpeg 45B2590B-7750-49BA-B193-52E6D5CC85BE.jpeg

I'm being dim. Why do you think Italian?

It says 12026, upside down, not Italy.

Lol! I’ve had in my head that it was Italian since the day I bought it months ago. I think I saw the gold paint that I often see on Italian porcelain and saw characters roughly the same as Italy and just took a mental shortcut when quickly looking at what was in my box between items on the auction block. I didn’t think it looked Italian stylistically but I guess I never bothered to look closely again. I guess that’s what happens when you buy by the car load and try to step up the speed from your typical snails pace of processing your buys. I tried to find the F mark but my eyes never wandered a couple centimeters over to the gold again. My B!!!

That makes more sense. I didn’t know they used much gold in that era but the paste (that’s the right term, right?) looked early, about that time to me.

Oh, gilding was absolutely the thing. I've some pieces with wonderful decoration which are about 1820 ish. Yes, the paste looks right and so does the handle. Your number is a pattern, the other mark is a decorator's piecework mark. Might be Coalport.

I'm torn. I think British, but not as early as OBB thinks. It could be continental as well, (Germany, Bavaria) as I've seen that fine numbering on the base on some late 19th c German items. But I could be all wet!
