This basket is 15 x 11 inches and 7 inches tall not including the handle. I don't know much about baskets and don't seem to have much of a feel for them either, so could you all confirm for me that this is a wicker gathering basket with nothing more than decorative value?
In my searches I did not see anything to suggest this was any more than that but WDIK. Anything about it suggest a date or place of origin?
As always, thanks for your help.

Your basket is made of rattan (reed), which you can recognize by the very even diameter along the length of each element, and the linear striations. The technique is a variety of "stake and strand", which was traditionally made using willow. (You can recognize willow by its tapering diameter along the length of an element, and leaf scars.) The term "wicker" seems to be derived from old Scandinavian words for willow, and the methods of stake and strand basketry are well adapted to the characteristics of willow as a weaving material. But wicker is now used to describe baskets made with similar techniques using a variety of materials.

Rattan is a product of a variety of related climbing palms, native to southeast Asia. It has been imported for use in western basketry and furniture since the mid 19th century.

Your basket appears well made, and may have been made either in Asia or in the west. Its value is largely functional and/or decorative.
