    Hello all,

This is a recent acquisition that I am having difficulty pinning down.

Gilt bronze, approximately 17" tall. Very solid, heavy casting, with some evidence of chaplets on the rider, but only one small vent hole on the underside of Garuda (just below his artistically represented "vent"). Scattered green and white corrosion, consistent with a copper alloy. The mount is clearly not original, and his feet are not at equal heights. He was either originally mounted on an uneven surface, or he stood off kilter.

I have not been able to find a close comparison. I understand that Hinduism is a minority religion in both Myanmar and Thailand, at least now, although their version of the Ramayana is still popular. The style looks, to me, like other sculptures identified as northern Thai or Burmese (going by the stocky build of the figures, the rounded face of the rider, the naturalistic hands, and the rather subdued flares on the shoulders of their costumes).

I am hoping that someone with more familiarity with Southeast Asian art may be able to suggest a likely origin, and possible time period.

It is gorgeous, @2manybooks ! I would say Burmese, the style, the crowns, and the child-like face of Vishnu are all features of Burmese, imo.
In many parts of SE Asia, Buddhism has Hindu features, and Hinduism has Buddhist features.
Hinduism as a faith isn't clearly defined anyway, it has many schools, and Buddhism is often regarded as one of the schools.
