20220127_182446.jpg Hi. I came on here as I was searching to find info on a particular statue that I have that I got fro. My Grandfather's passing.

I know his brother or sister used to work in Africa many moons ago and were there helping people. They later died in a plane crash there, so I hear.

I know most statues that came from Africa would been made of wood but this is not. Maybe it came from somewhere else all together.

It's just under 10inches. Some parts look like it was copper or bronze? There is green on the metal now in places. Here is a picture, maybe someone can tell me about it. I am not looking for a value only where it came from, what it could represent.

    Thanks

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The top of his clothing is interesting. Looks like a knit sweater in a cable pattern. I'm sure it isn't!

Welcome, @Dinodaddy. Could you please post a few more views of the figure - side view, so I can see the shape of the headdress, and back view? What do you think he is holding in his right hand? (I have an idea, but would like to know what you can see with him in hand.)

    20220129_195821.jpg 20220129_195801.jpg Hello,

Thanks for getting back to me. If I had to guess I would say a book was in their right hand, most likely a Bible??

I belive my family who died over their were missionaries but I really don't know the whole story.

There are no markings on the bottom at all

    Thanks!

Your figure is rather unique but, based on several features, I think he may have been made by a Dogon artisan from Mali. The bearded face is particularly characteristic of Dogon art.

You can see a Dogon figure with a similar face, and similar condition of the metal, here (scroll down the page to see other views):

This Dogon figure shows the same kind of integral stand:

And the costume of your figure bears some resemblance to Dogon dance costumes, including the tall headdress:
