    Hi all

i found these today in a charity shop jewelry bowl, mixed in with a lot of other stuff

i thought they looked quite nice, and maybe old

quite a good size as well

they have no hallmarks, and need a damn good clean, but im pretty sure they are silver

was hoping to find out the age of them, and what the black stones might be

    any thoughts appreciated

Newer in an old style with those backs. I'd like to see them clean, get that ultrasound going.

You mean the posts? To my eye, your earrings are in an older style but not old, old. Let's see what others think.

    Hi deb,

I mean the gold coloured parts that secure on the earring

I meant the post style, which is, as debora says, not old old. Those push ons are certainly new but they get lost so often that it's not surprising.

Yes, push ons get lost and replaced. No indication of age.

During the 1990s, there was a lot of this style jewelry sold on QVC, HSN and other places that was made in Thailand and possibly some other Asian countries (but not China). The stones look like onyx to my eye. Are they marked sterling or 925 because that's what they look like. While not very old, I think they're very attractive and if sterling, they would be a fairly easy sell. This type of jewelry never goes way out of style.
Edit: yes, the backs were likely taken from another pair of earrings. This type of earring is a little heavier and tends to tilt forward without the proper backs. The rounded backs were a little better but really they need a plastic disc through the earring back to hold them in place.

I imported earrings from Thailand in the 1990's and am absolutely sure they are Thai. They would have probably retailed for about $24.The gold clasps are called ear nuts.Definitly a replacement.I used American made ear nuts cause they were stronger and better made.

Another yes to Thai. The Thai make some nice jewellery inspired by Western period styles. Not exact replicas, but made in the style of.
The black stones could be enamel.
And also yes to replacement backs. They would have had sterling butterfly backs.
