My grandmother gave this to me a long time ago. I was cleaning out my jewelry box and found it. I tried looking it up online and found one that was similar. I was wondering the age and the metal type. Thanks! pin1.jpeg pin2.jpeg pin3.jpeg

Yours is a small souvenir toledoware pin in the shape of a galleon (and likely meant to be the Santa María) from Spain. Probably dates to the 1960s-1970s. The metal will be base. And, yes, lots of similars can be found with an internet search.

Yep, Damascene, made in Spain. I have one that was a gift from a midshipman after his summer cruise about 1959-60. It is listed on eBay.

If you google "toledo gold ship" or "damascene ship" you will find many.

Most of what you find with those searches are actually enamel on base metal, not toledo gold/damascene (which are inlaid metals).

I have a couple of these that I love to wear!

    Very cute, seaweed.
Seaweed's is also base metal, mass produced, not real damascene which is hand made.

Oh yes, exactly. I see that I didn't come close to making that clear, but it was in my head. :hilarious:

I know, our heads, filled with knowledge waiting to burst free.:pompous: Mine usually heads straight for the emergency exit, which doesn't seem to lead to antiquers.:hilarious:

I have one of these, 1960s bought in Spain. Yes, Toledo Ware or faux damascene, which is coloured and pressed brass. I'm rather fond of it, given its social history.
