Stone....glass or what....don't think I've posted before.....and thank you for your thoughts....yes, I've been digging through 'stuff' to see if I can at least eliminate some things!!! Came out of an OLD house Mom had bought for investment....not sure what you call the metal around the stone...don't think it's much, and it's unmarked....again, thank you for your help!!!

Yes, it's a cast metal. I can see a few extra tiny "bumps" on the bottom where the wax wasn't smoothed before casting. The stone is pretty, appears to be pink in the center and more orange around the edges, but not sure if that's not from the gold in the pin shining from the rear? :joyful::kiss:

Stamped brass would be my thought. Love the vividness of the 'stone', which is assuredly glass.

The gem is really eye catching and I think that pink colour is quite unusual. It looks like it’s cut into a peak (undoubtedly the wrong word, amateur hour here) I always associate that type of cut with older brooches but WDIK. Hopefully an expert will appear shortly!

Is it flat on the underside?

Reminded me a little bit of a piece I found recently. Although one I found isn't as nice. IMG_20211224_185400.jpg

@Bronwen, no, it goes to a point underneath, and is round and small oval flat on top....if I got that across correctly....better pic of the top coming shortly....here tis......

    When you said

I thought you meant the top surface came to a point or a sharp edge & wondered whether it was in a conventional cut, but set with what would usually be the bottom on top, so that the table (flat surface) was on the bottom. I see that is not so.

Sorry, I confused things as having now seen the close up photo I was seeing the ‘peak’ on the bottom through the gem which made it look like it was on the front/top.
    Does that make sense?

Have to admit my initial top image does make it look like it "peaks" on top, which my last image shows it does NOT!! SORRY 'bout that, didn't notice that soon enuf!!

@Bronwen, et al, jeweler did confirm the stone is simply glass, but nice color just the same!!
