Featured I KNOW I HAVEN'T POSTED THIS BEFORE, 'CUZ I JUST FOUND IT AFTER

Looking for FOREVER (albeit casually!)...knew I had it....just couldn't remember where! So, Mom found this, or rather bit down on it, some 30+ odd years ago, when she and Dad were out to dinner in Orleans, MA, eating raw (I think they were raw) oysters!!! (YUUCK) Eventually she gave it to me....soon I'll be seeing a jeweler and will also ask him about it, but first wanted your expert opinions!! Without further ado..... sorry, I can take better pics today if you want....I only found the 'little' pearl last night after dark, and wanted to post asap!!! WHATEVER you can tell me!!!! And what the heck is that like cross shape on the under concave side???? THANK YOU, AS ALWAYS!!!!!

lunch....restaurant with my folks....Dad gets all upset at finding a tooth in a mouthful of his sandwich....
calls the staff over....gives them hell....and we leave with no charge for the food..

Outside....Dad starts rooting around his mouth with his tongue....... OH YA !!!....it was his tooth !!!!!!
He was embarrassed .....but still thought the whole deal was funny as heck !!!!

 

The cross shape on the concave side you asked about? Where it was attached to the mother ship oyster? Joke fail?

 

Probably not UNLESS that's where the restaurant got their oysters from!!!

Pearls really can be any shape. If not spherical, as most are not, they are termed 'baroque'. To the best of my knowledge, the molluscs from which Mississippi River pearls come are not oysters. Quite a rare occurrence to find a detached pearl that size. Almost wonder if the restaurant was running a promotion that promised a chance of finding a pearl & planted it. Must have been lots of fun at the time for your mom & it's great to have the story - & the pearl - to hand down.

 

I believe she is saying it was found in Massachusetts.

 

Beautiful, with a very fun backstory! A wonderful keepsake, especially if you write out the story with all the details you can find, and keep it with the pearl. Maybe have it mounted on a locket with a picture of your parents from 30 years ago?

 

HAHAHA!!! Interestingly, it was at a restaurant called (if memory isn't failing me!!) "The Jailhouse" (which it actually once was MANY MOONS ago!!!)
